Former Finance Minister of the UK Rishi Sunak‘s winning streak for the next Prime Ministerial candidate race has last left Nikhil Kamath impressed.

The first India-origin candidate to ever hold the high office of UK Chancellor of the Exchequer won the first two rounds of voting by Tory members of Parliament. This victory places him firmly as the prime candidate to replace former UK PM Boris Johnson, with just five contenders remaining for their first public clash on Friday.

Sunak, who is married to Akansha (the daughter of

founder NR Narayana Murthy and author-philanthropist Sudha Murty), will now appear in a series of televised debates over the weekend with his remaining opponents to become the PM.

The Zerodha co-founder took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Sunak’s progress in UK politics.

Alongside a picture of himself with the UK PM candidate, the 36-year-old entrepreneur implied that the possibility of Sunak winning the election was a proud moment for the country.

“Who would have thought 75 years ago on August 15, 1947, (that) an Indian-origin man could be the Prime Minister of Britain one day,” he wrote in his tweet.

The businessman’s post was retweeted more than 75 times and was liked by over 1,200 people.

Netizens took to the comments section to share their views about Sunak and Kamath’s prediction.

Earlier this week, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra shared his desi humour with his 9.4 million followers on Twitter.

Next to a picture of 10 Downing Street (where the UK PM lives) decorated with lead garland and ‘shubh labh’ stickers, the businessman said that it may be the future of the country. “The famed British humour is now laced with Desi humour,” he wrote.

With his post, he showed his discreet support for Sunak leading the country. His post was retweeted nearly 2,000 times and liked by more than 24.8K people.
