Goods and Services Tax: Finance Minister Sitharaman asks CBIC to deal with tax obligation problems of taxpayers

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, throughout a conference on Friday (August 23), highlighted the relevance of attending to tax-related problems immediately. She prompted police officers of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) to be positive in settling complaints to guarantee effective tax obligation management.

Addressing an event at the commencement of the brand-new GST Bhawan in Udaipur, Sitharaman stated: “I urge all officers of the CBIC to proactively address doubts and concerns raised by the public and the business community regarding taxes before they escalate into grievances,” she stated.

She worried that the police officers need to take part in outreach initiatives to avoid uncertainties from intensifying and develop complication amongst taxpayers.

“I request that we conduct sector-by-sector outreach to resolve any doubts before grievances arise. If, after this outreach, there are still concerns or if changes are needed, we can make those adjustments as well,” she stated.

Earlier today, Finance Minister Sitharaman highlighted the relevance of streamlining revenue tax obligation notifications to guarantee they are quickly reasonable for the public. Addressing the target market at the 165th wedding anniversary of Income Tax, FM Sitharaman complimented taxpayers for their considerable payments to the Indian economic situation. She highlighted the need to improve the language made use of in revenue tax obligation notices and communication sent out to the general public to boost quality and availability.

“Tax notices need to be simplified so that people understand them better. Can we explore issuing simple, easy-to-understand notices?” FM Sitharaman asked.

Moreover, the FM asked revenue tax obligation division to avoid utilizing “threatening language” in tax obligation notifications.

“Let the experience of filing tax return on the first day be as good as filing it on the last day. We have to ensure that threatening language in tax notices and messages is avoided,” stated FM Sitharaman.
