Owaisi Opposes Statutory Defense for ‘Vande Mataram’

Hyderabad: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has voiced strong arguments to the Union Cabinet’s decision to give ‘Vande Mataram’ legal protection matching to the national anthem.

  • Owaisi argues ‘Vande Mataram’ is an ode to a siren, conflicting with India’s nonreligious principles.
  • He mentioned that the country does not run in the name of a god or siren and it does not come from one god or siren.
  • He mentioned historic figures that reportedly denied the track.

Telangana BJP Head Of State N Ramchander Rao criticized Owaisi’s position, implicating AIMIM of viewing social assimilation as a hazard to religious exclusivism and national communication. The Union Cupboard’s choice intends to change the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, making blockage of ‘Vande Mataram’ a punishable crime.
